15 BIG Things I Want To Do With My Life
You know, I’m always telling my staff, my clients and even my kids that you can’t hit a target you never hang.
Just yesterday, in fact, at my team meeting I explained how, as a trained military marksman I could have had the best training, the best weapon and the best ammunition in the world, yet if I had no target to practice my skills on then it was all for nothing.

The simple fact of the matter is that you need to know IN ADVANCE what you’re aiming to accomplish in life if you’re ever going to stand a chance of hitting your targets and accomplish those things that you say are important to you.
The thing is, sometimes our goals seems a little meaningless.
I mean, sure, we’d LIKE to see them come true, we’d LIKE the car, we’d LIKE the house, we’d LIKE the money in the bank but for most of us, that’s not what we’re about. These aren’t the things that really drive us are they?
For most of us it’s not the things we want to HAVE in life that drive us onward, it’s the things we want to BE and the things we want to DO that are far more important.
Yet most of us spend next to no time setting these BE and DO goals.
Instead we focus on the HAVE.
It’s like our goals lists become off-balanced with things we want to have and this just adds to the frustration that many of us feel from day to day… especially if once we have something we immediately turn our attention to having something else!
I believe the cure to this frustration lies in focusing on the BIG things that we want to BE in life and the big things we want to DO.
I believe that once you know what your BE and DO goals look like, almost everything about how you approach life changes. After all, once your target is hung in these areas it’s very easy to assess if your actions are likely to hit them or if they’re going wide, right?
So here’s a little challenge for you today. If you’re up to it, of course : )
Identify 15 BIG things that you want to DO or BE in your lifetime and share them with the world.
There’s no right or wrong answer here. There’s no absolute value to big or small either.
What one of us may consider HUGE may be a tiny goal to someone else, so don’t worry about trying to justify your answer.
Just put it down, share it with the world.
Once you’ve hung your targets out there, they’re very difficult to ignore and pretty soon, you’ll find your actions moving toward them. Maybe slowly at first, yet faster and faster as time goes on.
Hang your targets.
Here’s Mine:
1. To live overseas several times in my life to expand my knowledge of the world beyond that of a leisure traveler and gain greater understanding of how different nations view the world – My goals are to live in Thailand, Australia and the U.S
2. Earn enough money that I can give away 80% of my income to help others whilst still living a luxurious, exciting and joyful life with my family
3. Create an internationally recognised and admired association for the betterment of fitness professionals who, in turn, will provide national and local resources for the betterment of the health of their communities.
4. Create an internationally recognised and admired program of coaching that will teach people all around the world how to live a value driven life of truth, joy and love
5. Be the best father, husband, son and friend that I can possibly be so that I can, by example, lead others to do the same.
6. Stand on the peaks of the World’s top 10 tallest mountains.
7. Live with indigenous populations of Australia, Canada, South America and Africa to learn ‘land wisdom’ skills that have been eroded and are becoming forgotten and to share them so that they will continue on
8. Study Buddhism in Tibet
9. Experience 30 days of silence
10. Experience space flight
11. Learn to speak Thai, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Spanish, French, German
12. Visit the North and South Poles.
13. Qualify as an Osteopath
14. Write a novel and hit the NY Times best seller list
15. Live to a very old age and know that I used all the time I was given as best as I could (strangely, I’ve believed for years that I’m going to live to 117 years old – Don’t ask me why, there’s no logic to this, it’s just something that’s always been there)
There you go.
There’s MY 15 BIG things… ready to add yours? : )
Truth, joy and love

Thanks for a great article. The simple concept of setting goals around what I want to “be” and “do” – as opposed to what I want to “have” – is paradigm shifting. Thanks again.
