Three Questions You MUST Ask If You Want To Achieve Success In 2010!

Well, it’s Christmas day at last and I’m getting ready to hit Disney over here on my family vacation in Florida but before I do I thought I’d take a couple of minutes to leave a little thought for today to help those of you who are already thinking ahead toward 2010.

See, right about now I start working on my 1st MAGIC Hundred list of the year, paying some real thought as to what I want to be, do and have in my life during those first hundred days but before I do, before I start writing out my big ‘wish list’, I always take a little time to ask myself three questions related to my previous attempts at achieving my dreams.

Makes sense when you think about it, after all, if you don’t take the time to learn from both your successes and your mistakes then you’re dooming yourself to repeating unnecessary actions over and over whilst missing out on opportunities to do MORE of what works, right?

So what are these 3 questions?

#1: What worked well? - Simply taking the time to identify all of the things that worked really well for me in 2009 means that I can not only repeat these actions but commit to doing MORE of them… and sooner!

#2: What did I learn? - Every single success and ‘failure’ I make over the course of my year teaches me something and, as long as I pay attention to what I’m being taught, I can apply whatever I’ve learned to accelerate my results the next time around. Funnily enough, most people never really reflect on what they’ve learned in the previous year. Maybe that’s why they tend to make the same mistakes over and over and over and…

#3: What will I do next time? - Yes, I ask (and answer) this question BEFORE I set out on my next round of goals and dreams. This saves the make-it-up-as-I-go-along approach that most people seem to adopt on January 1st. By deciding IN ADVANCE what I’m going to do when faced with a certain problem or puzzle I’m going to avoid that reactive knee-jerk ‘thing’ that most people get when faced with a problem. Saves me so much hassle and negativity too!

So there you go, a nice short message for you today but, hopefully, a useful one.

As you start to think about what 2010 has in store for you over the next few days, try first asking yourself ‘the three questions’ and I guarantee you’ll not only set better goals in the first place, but will be infinitely more likely to have them come true.

And hey, if you’re game, why not tell me what YOUR answers to the 3 questions are right here on this blog? It might help you get clearer on what you need to do next : )

Great comment Mike, great question too : )

You could always ask “What’s the BEST that could happen?” too, right? : )

Well Dax, g’day. My son and I were in Orlando Forida in January 2007.I’m laughing at the thought of it! We spent 14 days in the theme parks. My son was 12 years old and we had a blast. We were within walking distance to Universal Studios.

You have given your family an unforgettable Xmas. Thanks for the motivation.

Thank you for your thoughts Dax - they have certainly confirmed some of my own: This has been quite a challenging year, particularly where my day to day work is concerned. I plan to meet 2010 with determination, and ultimately leave procrastination behind completely!

I have signed up to your Twitter - and already feel encouraged as I see myself reading your prompts/uplifting comments and that of others, and I have my feet on the accelerator, rearing to go.

Please help me to stay on track! I thank you in advance…

May you continue to be showered with blessings throughout 2010 - you deserve it!

Florida is a great place for vacations, especially in summer. I really love the beach there
